Summary of the doctoral dissertation submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of the Medical Sciences (D.Med.Sci.). Public defence of the dissertation was held on 14 June 1994. The Degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences was conferred on Author by the Faculty of Medicine Council, University School of Medicine, L-dU, on 21 June 1994.
