Abstract
The effect of multiple dialyser use on cardiovascular performance in dialysed uraemic children is not known. The difference of haemodynamic changes in children during the dialysis session with regard to single or multiple use of cuprophan or polysulfone dialysers was estimated. Haemodynamic examination applying the impedance cardiography method was performed in 15 ESRD children during the first (28 sessions) and the fourth use (28 sessions) of capillary dialysers. Mean arterial pressure (MAP), left cardiac work index (LCWI), systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI), stroke index (SI), ejection fraction (EF), index of contractility (IC), acceleration index (ACI) were assessed. The difference in MAP, LCWI, EF, ACI between the first and the fourth use of cuprophan dialysers was pointed out. The differences between the first and the fourth use of polysulfone dialysers were only seen in MAP and LCWI values. It was concluded that during acetate HD in children on the first use of dialysers a significant myocardial contractility improvement, stroke index increase and ejection fraction rise occurred. Reused polysulfone dialysers do not exert any influence on haemodynamic changes during haemodialysis session in children comparing with new ones. Reused cuprophan dialysers do not significantly improve the left ventricle function.
